The David
The MDT David Light Armored Vehicle is a cost-effective, survivable, light protected all-terrain vehicle that seats four, six or eight crewmembers. Its armored capsule is mounted on a commercial Toyota® Land Cruiser®, Hilux® or LandRover® Defender® pickup truck. The David offers battle proven advantages in power, versatility, protection, and lifecycle cost.
The David has been in service in combat conditions for over 10 years. Hundreds have been fielded, with daily combat activity. The David has come under terror attacks ranging from rocks and stones to assault weapons and improvised devices. It has proven itself, saving lives of numerous operators, time and time again.
Ever since its launch in 1968, the iconic Toyota Hilux pickup has left its mark wherever it goes. A redesigned frame and body structure ensures toughness and combined with its high-quality interior, the new Toyota 4X4 Hilux is the ultimate platform for the David. A powerful yet efficient 2.4 liter turbo charged diesel engine produces 150 HP and 400 Nm of torquw can be coupled with either manual or automatic transmission.
The Land Cruiser has built a reputation for rugged durability, total reliability and exceptional performance in diverse driving environments, whether on or off the road in deserts, mountains, arctic plains or tropical terrain. Part-time 4WD allows the best driving performance for the road surface conditions. Toyota’s tried and tested six in-line, 4.2 liter diesel engine is powerful, yet economical.
The David capsule is a “box” that allows for various seating arrangements. Rear area configurations include forward or aft facing seats, or face to face seating, of 4, 6 or 8 passengers. Three doors allow for rapid in-out operation, and an optional roof hatch allows for mounting a variety of weapons and equipment. With the litter option, a stretcher can be placed above folding seats, to allow recovery in battle. Situation awareness is achieved with six windows – a single pane windshield, windows in each of the two side doors and side walls, and one rear side window.
